Jeep Universal - Jeep-Wrangler JL Winches & Recovery | Morris 4x4

Jeep Universal - Jeep-Wrangler JL Winches & Recovery | Morris 4x4

These days, you can’t go 24 hours without seeing a truck or Jeep modded with everything needed to head out into the backcountry. Almost every truck or Jeep is modified with lift suspension kits, off road wheels and tires, front grille guards and Jeep winches. Is all of it really necessary? If you spend a lot of time, or really, any time, in the backcountry and in remote areas, being prepared with the right recovery gear is a true gamechanger.

One reason people like the Jeep Wrangler JL is it’s capabilities. It can roll through rough and uneven terrain like a pro. It is great at navigating up and over obstacles and cruising up high mountain roads, but it’s also easy for it to get stuck in some overly-challenging situations. If your Wrangler is prepared to handle a winch, it will allow you to safely recover your vehicle if you get stuck, so long as you have a good anchor point and the proper Jeep recovery parts. A solid tree, a large boulder or even another Jeep can serve as anchor points. You also get to play hero and help others if they get stuck. Another great thing about a winch is it doesn’t just remove cars from sticky situations - you can use it to remove obstacles that might be blocking the path, such as fallen trees.

If you are considering a winch for your Jeep, you have come to the right place. We strive to offer only the highest quality winches on our site. We have winches with pull ratings from 3k all the way up to 30k. If you are confused about what you should get, first take into account the weight of your Wrangler JL AND all the gear you plan to have along with you. Multiply this number by 1.5. That gives you a good baseline. You will also need to consider the terrain: is it steep or muddy? If so, you will need to get a winch that can handle these additional stresses. Adding a winch to your Jeep also requires a good bumper, mounting equipment and plates. Do your research to find what will work best for you.

Of course, a winch isn’t the only piece of recovery gear you need. In fact, before you consider a winch, check out things like extra fuel cans in case you need more fuel and you are nowhere near a station. Water cans are especially important for the obvious reason - quenching thirst - but clean water can be used to rinse off mud and cool down overheated engines. Even if you don’t do off-roading, recovery boards are still great to have on hand. We have used them once or twice on heavy snow days in our neighborhood to help cars stuck in deep snow.

If you spend any time in remote, backcountry roads at all, recovery gear, including winches, are invaluable. Preparing your Jeep Wrangler JL with the proper tools to help you when the trail takes over can mean the difference between driving all the way to the end of the trail or walking out to get help.
