Winches & Recovery
A winch can be used to recover from areas you’ve gotten stuck in. Use winches to hook onto a solid tree, rock formation, or other Jeep to pull yourself or a friend out of a sticky situation. Winches come with limits of 3k, 8K, 10K, 12K, 17.5K, or even as high as 30K pounds. Depending on the size of your Jeep and the terrain you expect to encounter during your outdoor adventures, one of the above-mentioned winches should get the job done. Casual trailers rarely need a winch beyond 12K weight capacity.
Winches range in price based on their features; top of the line winches with heavy payload, wireless remote control with LCD screen and IP68 water resistant rating are closer to $2,000 or more. Conversely, wired remote control winches with a lower weight limit may come as low as $300.
In several cases, a winch is often needed to pull a Jeep out of a low stream or muddy bog. Both entail wet conditions (even submersed conditions), so consider that when researching the proper winch for your needs. When purchasing a winch, also consider they type of line: steel rope or synthetic rope. There are several types of winch rope, breaking strengths, and characteristics therein, so be aware of all your options. Don’t hesitate to call our experts for advice.
Lastly, no matter what winch you end up with, it’s always a good idea to purchase a winch recovery bag. These often come with gloves, recovery straps, line dampeners, and more. These bags contribute to safe recovery operations and can be invaluable during more difficult trips outdoors.
